Bernard Adnet has illustrated countless children's books, text books, game boards, packaging and textiles and has designed CD Album covers and corporate and school logos. He has worked with every major publisher from Scholastic, Golden Books, and Macmillan McGraw Hill to Disney. One of the first illustrators to make the leap from traditional hand-drawn and painted illustration to computer decades ago, Bernard developed his own unique style and technique that combines Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator.
Raised in a small town at the foot of the French Alps, Bernard grew up skiing (competitive cross-country), hi king and fencin g ( memb er of the French National Sabre team). He didn't sit down much, but when he did, it was to draw. Bernard loved to draw.
In high school, Bernard specialized in technical drawing, model-making and wood working. His father wished for him to follow in his technical-engineering footsteps, however, Bernard had other plans. His passion for drawing, and eventually painting, led him to apply to the prestigious Roederer Art School, Place des Vosges, in Paris. He was accepted to the school and made the fortuitous move that would shape his professional and personal life forever. As young art student in the city of lights, he met his New York native, foreign exchange student, wife-to-be.
He graduated from Roederer and, although his portfolio was accepted by the famous Ecole Des Beaux Arts in Paris, he chose to enroll himself at the EMSAT, Ecole Municipale Superieure Des Arts Et Techniques, near the Bastille. With a finger on the pulse of graphic design, upon graduation from EMSAT, Bernard enrolled in the ETPA, School of Photography and Computer Graphics, in Toulouse, France. This was his last stop before moving to America.
Bernard began his life as a professional illustrator after being drafted onto the graphic design team of the Bill Smith Studio where he remained for several years before branching out on his own. Over the past twenty-plus years, he has enjoyed working as a freelance illustrator and art teacher and continues to work and live in New York City with his wife, Jennifer, and their two sons Félix and Théodore.
In addition to drawing, Bernard still loves to climb mountains.
